About the Role
A supportive and specialist school setting in Welling is seeking a compassionate and skilled SEN Teacher to join their team on a long-term basis. This role involves working with pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), delivering highly personalised learning and care.
This is a full teaching role, requiring full classroom responsibilities including planning, preparation, marking, and assessment, alongside a strong emphasis on communication, sensory engagement, and holistic development.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver personalised and engaging lessons tailored to pupils with ASD and PMLD
- Plan, prepare, and assess learning in line with EHCP targets and individual needs
- Use a range of communication strategies (e.g. PECS, Makaton, sensory approaches)
- Support pupils with complex needs, including personal care where required
- Create a safe, structured, and stimulating learning environment
- Monitor and track progress, celebrating small but significant achievements
- Work closely with support staff, therapists, SENCO, and senior leadership
- Maintain detailed records and contribute to reviews and reports
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience working with pupils with ASD and/or PMLD
- Strong understanding of SEN strategies and personalised learning approaches
- A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach
- Confidence working within a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to supporting pupils’ communication, independence, and wellbeing
