Year 6 SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support) – Bexleyheath
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team and work 1:1 with a high-needs child in Year 6. The successful candidate will provide tailored support to a non-verbal autistic pupil, helping them to access learning and make progress within a nurturing and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with significant additional needs (non-verbal/autistic).
- Implement individual learning and communication strategies, including speech and language interventions.
- Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to support learning and development.
- Support social, emotional, and behavioural needs to promote inclusion and independence.
- Assist with personal care and any occupational therapy programmes as required.
Essential Skills and Experience
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience working with children with SEN in a school, nursery or care setting
- Understanding of Autism strategies, sensory needs, PECs, Makaton, or visual timetables (desirable)
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A calm, patient and resilient approach to challenging situations
- Good literacy and numeracy skills
- Valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3, Team Teach, or equivalent is a bonus
